RE: Canada Travels

My best advice is get a Passport. It will help you gent back into the USA. We found the USA folks were not as helpful as the Canadian were in letting us in.
Take as much of their $$ in that you can Try not to use a credit card as the extra charges will eat you up. We found a VISA that only charged 1% and still tried to not use it.
In Canada use banks to exchange you $$$. Sometime there will be a limit so you exchange the maximum then your spouse can do the same thing.
Fill you fuel tanks in the USA and come back across on empty.
ENJOY THE RIDE
We are planning our first trip to Canada next year and would like a few hints. Will be going to Prince Edward Island with two teens and a dog and cat. I understand the ID requirements, but what else will we need?
How about the border crossing? I know no firearms but what else could be a problem going into Canada and back to the States?
Will my Direct TV satellite dish work in Canada? (Hope I don't sound too stupid).
Thanks in advance

RE: Keyless Starting???

Go to a GM dealer and see how much they will charge to install the GM keyless system into the coach.
Has anyone ever heard of replacing the standard ignition system that uses a key with a switch & push button to start the engine? I realize that this will bring up a lot of theft issues but in order to start our 2004 Newmar DS I basicaly get down on all fours to put the key into the ignition. Is there a better system out there? Thanks all.

RE: Caterpillar Transmission

It is an 8 speed not a 6 speed. We saw then in 07 on a factory tour.
While looking at a Country Coach motor home at the Pomona RV Show, the spec sheet on one model had a Cat engine and Cat transmission as the base engine and trans. This particular coach had been upgraded to a Cummins and Allison.
I have never heard of a Caterpillar motor home transmission. The salesman said they've been around for about a year. Anyone running one of these or heard anything about them?

RE: ads on this forum

I follow my SAINTED Mothers advice. "If it sounds to good to be true it probably is."
I realize that this forum needs money to operate -- but does anyone here check out the legitimacy of the advertiser?
Case in point -- I noticed an ad for 'cheap gas online' this morning and did some rudimentary checking online to determine if this fantastaic offer was on the up and up.
The answer - at least the answer I came up with in about 15 minutes of googeling was NOPE.
Do the owners of this forum simply accept advertising $$ from any source whatever? Or do they feel some responsibility to us, the members, and check out the honesty and/or viability of advertisers?????
Happy Travels

RE: Pressure Pro. Did you need a repeater?

We have a 36 foot and we were having problems on the rear duals and some of the FROG wheels. The repeater has solved all problems.
I am trying to see if you needed a repeater on your setup: either with a toad or without.
I am still trying to narrow down my problems with the PP system and the sensors on the back wheels. Doug at PP responded promptly to my email today and said something about having to take some time and do something over the phone with me to get my system up and running.
My rv is a 35 footer. Has anybody else needed a repeater for a rig this length? From what I hear, even 40 footers don't need any extra antenna and some toads don't even need repeaters.
Thanks.

RE: Oh my back! Please help!

Buy a high quality air bed and air pump and put it on top of the existing bed. We do and it is cheap and effective.
My dad and I bought a 2000 Fleetwood Pace Arrow 37s. My mom and dad get the bedroom and my wife and I use the fold out couch. Problem is the mattress is pretty worn out - I can feel every spring!
So, where is a good online store that sells not only good replacements, but direct replacements?
Thanks everyone!

RE: Winterizing MH in Houston Area

If it were me I would fill with fuel, and have it ready for an immeadiate trip to many places in Texas to visit.
We moved from Michigan to Texas not far north of Houston (Huntsville) this year, and this is our first winter back in my home state and first with a motor home. In Michigan winterizing after our last trip in late October was a ritual. It will be a while before winter gets to Texas, but I am beginning to think about winterizing. A hard freeze from my experience years ago is maybe 28F. Infrequently you see temps in the teens. I have a 2004 Itasca Suncruiser (essentially a Winnebago), and it will be parked outside.
What do others in this area do to winterize under similar circumstances? It is necessary to drain the water heater and fill the water system with pink anti-freeze? Or is it enough to plug in the furnace and run it set very low on colder nights? Etc.?

RE: Running fridge on the inverter

You can and we do. Just do not forget and leave it on the inverter when you stop for over an hour or so. We have a 2000 watt inverter, 4-6 volt battery bank and 250 watts of solar collectors.
solar install
It seems like I've seen this posted before, but a search turned up nothing. When going down the road, why can't you run your fridge off the inverter, instead of LP ? The batteries are being charged off of the eng alt., correct? :h Oh, and no responses about not running the fridge at all. I always run my fridge on the road.

RE: Huge trip Leaving Oct 6th

I have done the trip from Santa Fe to UT. Some of these roads ar two lane and in the mountains. But thousands of RVers have done it and it represents no real problems. Just slow down and take you time. Suggest you plan to drive between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
We go all over this part of CO.and have a great time.
DW and I are leaving FT. Worth to the west coast on a 3-5 week trip. We will have to be in the desert near Edwards AFB at the end of Oct for an event. Wish I could post the Street & Trips map I am working on, but I will ask questions about it a section of the time.
FTW.... to Santa Fe NM... ok.
From Santa Fe I propose to go to Beaver UT by way of...
Santa Fe, 84 to 160 to Durango, 50 to Montrose then up to I70 west to Utah..
Tell me about this road and such..
08 Discovery 39R, pulling a toad....
thanks.. more questions to come...

RE: Camping World Sponsorship

Just think of every sign you feasted your eyes on, Ford, Chevy,Dodge, Coke, Loews, and on and on and on. They are are just like Camping World in thinking that people that go to NASCAR are people who spend $$$ without even thinking very much. How much did you pay to get in and do what ever you did.
Sponsors come and sponsor go.
When people stop going to NASCAR then sponsors will go and never come back. Admission prices will come down and so on and so forth.
I attended Last weeks NASCAR race in Dover. It was named the Camping World RV Sales 400. This weeks race is also named the Camping World RV Sales 400. Two very expensive weekends for Camping World. I heard today that Camping World is taking over the sponsorship of the Craftsman Truck Series next year and it Will be Called the Camping Worl Truck Series. Now...RV manufacturers are going out of business faster that wall street banks can fail. Dealers are going under. RV sales have plummeted and gas is almost at an all time high. How the hell does Camping World have all this money tens of millions to throw at NASCAR...doesn't add up

RE: roadside assistance comparison

We have had Good Sam and now have Coach Net. We find CN to be more responsive, the people on the phone seem more knowledgeable, and the service seems to be better.
Hi
I want to purchase Emergency Roadside Assistance for our 36' motorhome. Is there somewhere where the various plans are compared with each other? Does one plan shine above the others for service?
Thanks, Linda

RE: "quiet hours"/no generator use question for the experts here

Depend on what is in the conditioning air you speak of.
I can see the air purifier but why a fan for asthsma? I would think just conditioning the bedroom air would suffice.

RE: "quiet hours"/no generator use question for the experts here

We have run our bedroom factory installed 120 volt fan over night using the inverter over night. We have 4-6 volt batteries.
Also suggest you check this RV Park out.
Yellowstone RV Park
as it is only 30 minutes away from the North entrance.
Eat here at least one time.
Chico Hot Springs
Hi all,
We are staying a month up in Yellowstone/Grand Teton area, and are interested in staying at a couple of National Forest Service campgrounds which of course have no hook-ups. We have not ever gone without electricity, especially at night. In this, we are probably opposite of most people; we use air purifiers and a fan for severe asthma relief.
I am wondering, if we run our generator some during the day, will the batteries (six golf cart type batteries) let the inverter run just a table fan all night? If not, how long would it run?
I know this is a really dumb question, but we have always stayed where we could run the generator at night, if there weren't hookups. But we would like to try something different, and I have no idea of the capabilities of the inverter. We have a 2003 40 ft Monaco Dynasty.
Thanks to anyone who can give me some insight into this.

RE: Best Place to winter 2008/2009

Suggest you look at Deming, NM. Few freeze night close to mountain as you go on day trips to Silver City, of go over to Tor C and Elephant Butt Lake, or old mining towns over by Lake Valley. Best :)like Beauty :D is in the eye of the beholder :B.
Just beginning to full time. We're looking for recommendations for best place to spend the winter in either Arizona or New Mexico. Texas is nice but we want to get out of Texas for a spell. Looking for scenery; no or few freezing nights, interesting views, history, hiking, friendly people, big rig friendly, 50 amp service.
Any location / park recommendations appreciated.
Thanks.

RE: TRUCK TIRE SIZE

Most 18 wheelers that I am aware of run 24.5 size tires. I have seen a few car carries that run 22.5 size tires. So I guess I consider truck tires to be the 24.5 size to be truck tires. It not how many more sizes they makes as one is just enough.
Just what size do you consider a "truck tire"?? My coach came with 12R-22.5's on it! They dont make too many sizes larger than that!!!

RE: Satellite: How to obtain service for an exisitng hookup?

Sounds to me like you father was getting the service at a very reduced charge of just another receiver of say $5.00 per month. If you father has never had service in his name he can now have an account established in his name and pay for the full service. If you have service you could provide your father with one of your receivers and he would have service again.
Sorry to negative but that is how I read your post.
My father has a satellite system in his motorhome.
A friend of his put the system in his motorhome. My father then paid his friend the monthly charge.
Well, his friend past-way at the beginning of the year. Needless to say, my father has not had satellite since his friends death.
So, if he has the satellite box and hookups, does anyone know the best way for my father to obatin new satellite service for his motorhome?
thanks
